We are very glad to announce that the 8th International Conference on Cormorants on behalf of the Cormorant Research Group will be organised in Medemblik, The Netherlands, from 24 till 27 November 2011. It will be the 5th meeting after the Cormorant Research Group was formalised as a IUCN-Wetlands International specialist group. There will be four main sessions and one round-table discussion. Workshops will be organised on specific themes. The CRG meeting will be organised and discussion on progress of Cormorant studies and future developments will be scheduled.
This is an excellent opportunity to see Cormorants from the historic sailing vessel "Schuttevaer" at the famous bird island "De Kreupel Nature Reserve" a recent man made island in Lake IJsselmeer.
Call for Papers
There will be good opportunity to present papers on Cormorant topics mentioned in the programme. Talks will be ca. 15-20 min. long, about the topics population developments, ecology and behaviour, management and interaction with fisheries and migration and techniques. Papers on species other than the Great Cormorant are welcomed! A poster session will be included. Poster size will be 60 x 120 cm.
To submit a talk or a poster it is necessary to send an abstract no longer than 250 and 150 words, respectively. The deadline for registration and submission of abstracts is 1 november 2011. Abstracts should follow the example below. Please, provide name(s), post address(es) and email address(es) of the author(s). Indicate speaker with an asterisk. Put the title in capital letters, then followed by the text. All abstracts must be submitted by email to the following address:

We are currently investigating the possibility of producing the conference proceedings as an issue of Ardea in 2012. To achieve this goal it is necessary that all authors make their final papers available soon after or, preferably, during the conference. Proceedings of the Villeneuve conference will be made available during this meeting.
Preferably 10 November at the latest
Registration will ensure the sender the receipt of the second and final circular in October. Then we will schedule the full programme with titles of contributions at length.
Full attendance (24 till 27 November 2011) costs will be € 250,- p.p.
All communication will be in English.
The conference will be held in Hotel "Het Wapen van Medemblik" in Medemblik, The Netherlands. The village of Medemblik is easily reached by train and bus (train from Schiphol Airport to Hoorn (55 min), bus line 139 to Medemblik (30 min). Participants are expected to arrive on Thursday 24 November 2011 during the afternoon or evening. Shuttle bus will be arranged from Hoorn at times of peak arrivals.
